Welcome

Thanks for visiting the website of the Greater Humboldt Bay Garden Railway Society (GHBGRS). The GHBGRS is a loose knit group of model railroaders who enjoy their trains in large scale and usually outdoors. We meet once a month (usually on the 2nd or 3rd Sunday) to enjoy the camaraderie and friendship of other model railroaders at a members home (oh, and to run trains!).

A garden railroad is a model railway system set up outdoors in a garden. Most often, it is #1 gauge rail track with a G scale or similar train. LGB first popularized these trains, and more recently other manufacturers such as AristoCraft Trains, USA Trains, Bachmann Trains and Accucraft have produced models in this scale/gauge combination.

A garden railway's scale can be anywhere from 1/32 to 1/20.3. 1/32 scale is also called "three-eighths scale" meaning 3/8 of an inch on the model represents one foot on the real thing. For similar reasons, 1/24 scale is also called "half inch scale".

Our group is an eclectic bunch with modelers interested in mainline standard gauge, branchline narrow gauge, modern diesels, ancient steam locomotives, American and European prototypes and everything in between. Anyone can come (members and non-members alike). Members often bring appetizers to share with others.

Feel free to join us anytime. Contact Greg Coit at (707) 845-0317 or gregcoit@gmail.com for meeting dates and locations.
